After a soldier falls for our freedom and for our sovereign republic, a flag is given to the family to remember who they were, and what they fought for. This piece of art represents the true nature of that soldier. This piece features Padauk as its primary wood. Exotic Padauk originates from Africa and was chosen due to its blood red color to represent that which is spilled by our heroes.
Figured Maple was also chosen, as this American hardwood came from our pride, the republic of the United States of America. While figures in wood are not predictable, it is considered extremely valued by woodworkers because of its beauty. Like those qualities that we honor in our American soldiers, they develop from experiences that are unpredictable, but create scars sometimes visible and sometimes hidden. The American figured hard maple represents our soil, and the strength of one who fought to protect our way of life. This features a drawer with handmade handles to match to place anything of value in, that represents the soldier in all their glory.
By combining the overseas and the American, this artwork was built with the intention of housing and honoring our flag for those who have served to protect us and our freedom. For those who are willing to “stand on that wall,” you are thanked and remembered.
